12/11 is a new date to remember: It was the day that brought us the Certificate of Emergency Medicine (Fähigkeitsausweis klinische Notfallmedizin FMH, Certificat de capacité de médicine d'urgence FMH). An overwhelming 113 pro-votes in the legislative committee of the Swiss Medical Association (Aerztekammer FMH / Chambre Médicale FMH) has approved this new title.

This is a great achievement for all physicians working in the field. It will add to the growing recognition, but it will also trigger new discussions on who should be the leaders in clinical Emgergency Medicine.

Every physician interested in emergency medicine is cordially invited to join us in our move towards academic emergency medicine.

We called our new journal "Swiss Journal of Emergency Medicine" because it is our goal  to initiate new scientific projects on our field, to exchage our ideas on projects and protocols, and to have a platform to publish interesting case reports.

Available Courses

  • Case-reports can be submitted to all editors (members of the science commission), projects can be discussed in their respective forums, and pathways/ standards/ algorithms can be used for clinical practise. It is important to note that each author is responsible for the content. The editors will share responsibility by uploading e.g. case-reports. However, the Science Commission or the Board of the Swiss Society of Emergency Medicine can not be made responsible for medical errors or statements made by contributing authors. Although each user must be registered, the Swiss Journal of Emergency Medicine is an open forum and will contain ideas and opinions of different origin. Most welcome are contributions from the "outside", either physicians from other specialties, or countries, or nurses / paramedics involved in emergency medicine.

For this international attitude - as well as the different languages in Switzerland - we will keep this an english language journal.

Enjoy yourselves by submitting to editors, disscussing, and making connections.

Roland Bingisser and Aris Exadaktylos for the Science Commission of the SSEM
